In 2005, the Illinois state legislature passed The Early Voting Initiative. Early Voting gives registered voters the opportunity to cast their ballot during an 18-day window before the official Election Day. The purpose of Early Voting is to make voting more convenient for voters.
For the March 21, 2005 Primary Election, Early Voting runs between February 27 and March 16.
Unlike absentee voting, Early Voting does not require a reason for submitting a ballot before Election Day. A registered voter simply drops by an Early Voting site and presents a valid government issued photo ID card. Once the voter has been validated, the county database will be updated, which prevents the voter from voting at another location. The actual vote will be tabulated once the polls close on the official Election Day.
PLEASE NOTE: Once an early vote has been cast, the vote is final. The voter may not go to the polling place on Election Day to change a vote.
